An interview with Saramago
Perhaps a bit later I'll post something on Saramago--a writer who has some good points, but whose style, to my mind and taste leaves me asking questions--most often--why?

With Saramago I often get the feeling that something is getting lost in translation. His best books, to me Ricardo Reis, The Cave, The Double (to some extent) and Blindness are jewels. Others, like The Stone Raft I have abandoned after two attempts.
