Three Times Roth plus Bellow
Roth and the Death of the Novel--an Interview
Roth disillusionment, Bellow enlightenment--a consideration
The Ghost Writer et al.
With this latter post I have considerable sympathy. While I have managed to gain a bit of a taste for Roth, I still find myself repulsed by some aspects of his obsession with sex. They are meant to be meaningful, I know, but they don't resonate for me the way I think the author wishes them to--they strike me as very fetishistic and beyond abnormal into the world of the anti-normal. And perhaps that is the point--but it is a point required in exceedingly small doses. I long for another The Plot Against America.
