While I'm all in favor of reasonable and measured steps to prevent catastrophe--the reality is we won't prevent every catastrophe and as we continue to narrow the parameters, a quote by Benjamin Franklin leaps to mind:

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
