Reading Frost

A reading of "On Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"

As I was reading this piece and considering the venue--First Known When Lost--I thought that some works are so well-known they are, for all intents and purposes, lost.  That is, they've become the wallpaper and musak of our world--they are constantly before us and never really seen, read, or appreciated.  There are probably countless works that fall into this category.  The eventual fate of such works would be to go away entirely, never missed because never really read.  Perhaps it is only my distance from college, but I feel that something of the sort is happening to Shakespeare--a core of our literature, now largely unread except for a few required college courses (if one is even required to experience such an exemplar of what Robert Hughes referred to as the Pale Penile Patriarchy).

  1. I suspect that eventually they will be "rediscovered."
