Poetry in Prose

from "Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter"
in The Unknown Errors of Our Lives
Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

"I'd totally forgotten," says Sagar. "How can you keep track of all those old, old things?"

Because it is the lot of mothers to remember what no one else cares to, Mrs. Dutta thinks, to tell them over and over until they are lodged, perforce, in family love. We are the keepers of the heart's dusty corners.
